I thought this race would never begin, or end for that matter. But it was good racing nonetheless once the skies (and the track) cleared. Dale Jr. and Casey Mears didn’t fair too well, they had a run in early on and they finished 40th and 42nd respectively. Although their teammates Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon bounced back and finished 2nd and 3rd, which brought their point standings up a great deal. The real surprise was Carl Edwards who won the event with a very impressive run. Looks like Roush has some things figured out. Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth finish out the the top 5.
Lets discuss the track issues. I don’t understand why they went green when they did. At least three cars wrecked because of water seeping from the seems in the asphalt. From what I saw on the replay, it was very obvious and there was a LOT of water coming out of the seems. I feel for Mears and Jr, that accident should not have happened, the race should have been postponed another day. Sure, I know… hindsight…, but history has a tendency of repeating itself and I’m sure that wasn’t the first time water seeped out of seems on a racetrack in the 60 year history of NASCAR. Oh well, lessons learned… hopefully. Don’t race on a wet racetrack kids.
Las Vegas is coming up next week. Fast cars at a fast track, that should be a better gauge at how the new cars will be. I’m looking forward to it. Maybe Dale Jr. can make up some points.
